Get ready to smile—Squid Game is back for another round. The latest trailer teases a return to the sinister and high-stakes games when Season 2 premieres on December 26.
In the early December trailer, a hardened Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), also known as Player 456, reenters the deadly competition with a single mission: to put an end to the horrifying game once and for all. Facing new and perilous challenges, Gi-hun is pitted against the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), whose true intentions remain shrouded in mystery. As the twists of Season 2 unfold, questions arise: Can Gi-hun achieve his goal, and how many lives will the system consume in the process?
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed excitement about what lies ahead for the series. “I feel the pressure, but I’ll make sure the wait is worth it,” Hwang shared with Netflix in 2023. The anticipation is already paying off, with Squid Game Season 2 earning a nomination for Best Drama Series at the upcoming Golden Globes.
Season 1 introduced viewers to the deadly competition, where players risk their lives for the chance to win a life-changing cash prize — or face devastating consequences. Gi-hun, a struggling everyman, continues to lead the story, with Season 2 picking up after his shocking decisions in the Season 1 finale.
Season 2 delves into how Gi-hun acts on his words after leaving the airport, Hwang explains in a new behind-the-scenes featurette revisiting Season 1. “His journey to uncover the identities and motives behind the game organizers is at the heart of this season.”
Lee adds, “In Season 1, we saw glimpses of Gi-hun’s optimism and energy. This time, the focus is on his unwavering determination.”
